Method 6020A/200.8 - Octopole Reaction System (ORS)

Environmental samples often contain very low concentrations of the analyte of interest and high levels of interfering elements. Samples containing high levels of chloride salts from salt water intrusion or deicing agents have always presented an analytical challenge for typical AA, ICP-AES and the earlier versions of the ICP-MS instruments. However, the Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS is specifically designed for environmental applications, providing the highest sensitivity, interference reduction and stability for complex, high-matrix samples.

Polyatomic interferences predominantly affect the low atomic mass target elements, such as arsenic, chromium, copper, and selenium. The 7500ce Octopole Reaction System (ORS) corrects for these interferences using helium and hydrogen to collide with the larger polyatomic ions, zapping them of their energy so they can be rejected before entering the quadrupole detector.  

What this equates to is vastly improved sample throughput and more reliable results.
